Ukiah

A few weeks ago I got to take a (pretty regular) trip up to Ukiah to visit my boyfriend's dad. As always it was a fun trip filled with mini adventure's through the mountain. On my last trip over there a few friends and I built a swing but I never got to take photographs of it. A lovely swing it is :)

While there I had the opportunity to teach my friend Maricel how to use my camera. Not only was it a great refresher course for me, but it was great to be able to explain (out loud) how my camera works. It's one thing to be able to do something it's another to be able to teach someone how to do it.  Here's one last photo from the weekend...

Sight and Sounds

Do you ever just stand in the woods/forest and listen? The crackling of the branches, birds chirping or flying overhead and soft winds flowing past your ears. I love these sounds when I am sitting close to a cabin, but once I’m out in the middle of the forest the sounds scare me because I don’t know what nature holds beyond where I can see.  I’m scared that a random bear or deer will come out of the woods and try to eat me. It’s an odd fear that I can’t seem to get over, but I’m working on it.

Every time I go up to Ukiah with my boyfriend to visit his dad I fall in love with the sights of the property, but I’m scared to walk though the trails. Now that I started watching “Lost” I feel like a polar bear or mystic black smoke cloud will attack me, maybe ever a wild boar, but I have to remember that I’m not on an island. I’m in the mountains. At the end of the day, I need to get over it.

Hard Wood

Every time I go to Ukiah to visit my boyfriend’s dad I see something new to photograph. One tree never looks the same the next time you see it. It’s funny how nature is like that. This time around I really focused on the wood around the property, whether it was the trees, chopped wooden, stumps or branches. Each piece has something of its own to offer.

Shades of Green

Green happens to be my favorite color. Maybe that’s why I love photographing natural landscapes and trees. I took this photo while it was raining. The leaves were still crisp from a fresh rain. I love the way the photo fades to black and makes the green pop.

Spider Webs

I don't know how to describe what I see in this other then "Spider Web." I recently spent some time in Ukiah up in the mountains. I ventured around the property with my camera not knowing what to expect. I hate the feeling that most of my photos just look like boring pictures of trees, like there is no depth to them or something to see. I found that this photo made me see something more then just branches. Tangled, intertwined with no direction or journey yet still so alive.
